 This is my improved version of a set that has been used for centuries, a high carbon steel striker is struck against a flake of flint to make the sparks. I have included a few pictures of the kit in use,  I would however advise letting go of the tinder when it catches a bit earlier than I did. 

The laminated striker included in this kit is made from two different steels forge welded or laminated together. The inner layer is a softer steel, this reinforces the striker meaning that the file steel striking surface can be heat treated to maximum hardness, giving the best possible sparks. Makes striking slightly easy and is recomended for for children or anybody that may have difficulty with striking the standard strikers. 

Kit includes:

• A choice of black leather or dark brown suede pouch. 
• Char cloth to catch the sparks.
• Laminated instructions, these double as a holder for the fragile char cloth.
• Grass tinder which is ignited by the char cloth to produce flames. This is actually supplied in a separate paper bag, enough to stuff the pouch with two or three times.
• Three flakes of flint, these cut tiny shards of steel from the striker, these are the sparks.
• Laminated striker,  forged from recycled file and mild steel  Heat treated to produce the hardest surface possible,  throwing the best sparks.

Available in three sizes:

• Small - suitable for teenagers and adults with small hands,
• Medium- most women and men with smaller hands, me!
• Large- Mostly for men
